Ashley Fletcher
Talk of this lad going Leeds for 2 million in January.

Should we be selling him?

One of the very few players this season to show some signs of promise.

Probably one of the biggest criticisms I levelled at Bilic last season - different story if Calleri was doing the business, then I could understand with the pressure for results and all that.

But week after the week the bloke was toilet and we're no further forward in knowing whether Fletcher has what it takes to be a regular contender for a starting XI place.

Re: Ashley Fletcher
This is why tv interviewers & journos are so piss poor.
Anyone worth his salt would have cornered Bilic and asked why he was playing Calleri who you wouldn't pick to play with your mates on Hackney Marsh instead of a young English striker you own and could make use of some pitch time
And now Calleri has been fucked off after achieving nothing and we are saying Fletcher could do with experience
BONKERS

Tomshardware - totally agree, from the very little I saw of him he can't have been any worse than Calleri (who frankly couldn't trap a bag of sand or finish a bowl of ice cream)

Was infuriating that someone who clearly had no future at the club be picked ahead of someone who you'd like to think does, week after week.

Re: Ashley Fletcher
I think this lad needs to play games, but I still can't fathom why Calleri was picked ahead of him last season.

It's not fair to judge him on a handful of sub appearances. Get him out on loan to another prem club, we can see if he's got potential.

I think he could be good. But I feel he needs a smart "striker coach" , we ain't got one.from what I've seen of him he tries to do too much, lay it off,get it back and back of the net.

Re: Ashley Fletcher
I'm a mug, but I love it when a player says stuff like that, Coffee.

Especially after watching Calari for 85 minutes in a game and wondering why the fuck he's even out there. Then Fletcher gets on, looks a handful and runs for ten minutes like a dog chasing a ball in a park. Charges the opposition goalkeeper down and makes an absolute nuisance of himself.

And instead of spiting his dummy out because Calari couldn't find his arse with both hands let alone the goal, he plods on, trains hard and comes back to pre-season early.

Will he come good? Fuck knows. I'd say that attitude deserves a good twenty minutes for five games though, whoever we sign. As a West Ham fan I love to be there when a kid starts to come good. I remember Mark Noble's debut like it was yesterday.

Re: Ashley Fletcher
It would be great to see Fletcher make a real breakthrough to the first team.

This from foreverwestham.com:

Hammers striker Ashley Fletcher says he is looking to repeat his feat of last summer in which he scored in both of the club’s pre-season games in Austria.

Fletcher, who had just arrived from Manchester United on a free transfers, got off to a flying start in Claret and Blue last year as he bagged against both FC Slovacko and Karlsruhe SC during the Hammers stint in Austria.

The 21-year-old is hoping he can repeat history this year as he looks to prove his worth to manager Slaven Bilic amidst speculation of the arrival of a big money striker at the London Stadium, as well as rumours of his own departure to newly promoted Huddersfield Town.

Speaking on the club’s official website, Fletcher said: “It was the same last year, as everyone was saying we need a £20m striker but they are hard to come by, it’s not easy to go out and find a player who can score goals regularly in the Premier League, especially those who come in from abroad.

“As a young player making my way through, if I am given an opportunity and a run in the team, I think that can only benefit me.”

Despite the rumours regarding his future, Fletcher is very much looking ahead to next season and hopes he can break into the first team more regularly.

“I look at Marcus Rashford, for example, who has taken his chance and stayed in the team and he’s probably now one of the best strikers in England,” the 21-year-old observed. “The same can be said for Harry Kane as well.

“There aren’t many young English strikers playing in the Premier League, so hopefully this season I can get even more game-time, as my ambitions are to play and do well for this massive Club.

“Last season was a learning year for me, so I’ve been away and worked on getting fitter and stronger over the summer as I want to come back firing in pre-season.”

West Ham begin pre-season on July 15th before flying out to Austria, Germany and Iceland.
